The Woodsong Songwriter Workshop is offering full and partial scholarships for area high school seniors and juniors who reside in the following counties: Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Gordon, Paulding, Pickens, and Polk.

Woodsong will be an intensive workshop for aspiring and experienced songwriters on April 16 at Woodsong Farm, near Cartersville, GA. The workshop will be conducted by Louisa Branscomb. Branscomb has served as a mentor for songwriters across the country for two decades through private workshops, festival workshops, and as a founding member of the IBMA Bluegrass Songwriter Committee.

Drawing on four decades as a published songwriter, along with a background as a teacher and psychologist interested in creative expression, Branscomb combines experiential work, skill-building, and group interaction, all in the inspiring setting of the rolling hills and strolling horses of Woodsong Farm.

Following the workshop, the Farmhouse Concert (open to the community, and free to participants) will present professional songwriters playing their songs in the intimate setting of the restored farm overlooking the mountains.

“We will start with inspiration and individual and group writing, and end with ways to effectively promote and expose your song," commented Branscomb. "There will be time for writing in the serene setting the farm provides, discussion, personal feedback, and pointers about structure and craft.  For new writers, the workshop will help you get started and for experienced writers, it will build on your current skills and create a space for you to deepen and 'live' in your songwriting.” The workshop will also address creative ways to increase exposure of participants' songs.

Following the workshop, the Woodsong Spring Master Songwriter Concert will be open to the public (with reservations) featuring originals by Branscomb and guests, including Kathy Reed, Martha Ann Brooks, and others.

All are encouraged to come hear some of Georgia’s finest songwriters in an intimate country setting. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic, and jam on the dinner break from 5:00 to 6:30.

A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available to high school juniors and seniors. The deadline for scholarship applications is April 10. For additional details or a scholarship packet, please email egrassblast@yahoo.com.
